New Patient Consultation & Treatment
Please contact THE CHIROPRACTIC WELLNESS STUDIO to schedule your Initial Consultation. If you have previous diagnostic test results in your possession (x-rays, bone scans, CT or MRI and blood work) please bring copies of these reports with you to your Initial Consultation.
Please expect your initial consultation to take up to 1 hour. Depending on your individual circumstances your appointment duration may be shorter, however, this is difficult to predict in advance.
We will ask you to complete a Personal Health Questionnaire outlining some of the following information; your age and occupation, onset of the injury/pain, frequency and duration of your symptoms, aggravating and relieving factors, past medical history (motor vehicle accidents, surgeries, hospitalizations, previous fractures) and other therapies you may have already received for this condition.
Do you have upper back pain, pain in your joints, or a pinched nerve in your back?
It is important to pay attention to the type of pain and the region where you typically feel the discomfort. We will address certain factors relating to your pain such as the location, onset, duration and severity of the pain you are experiencing. We will ask you to describe the pain (sharp, dull or achy, burning) and to list the type of activities which either or intensify or decrease your pain.
X-rays will be recommended during your consultation only if you have had a recent history of trauma (fall from a height or MVA) or display specific signs or symptoms that we are interested in investigating further.
A physical examination of your spine and main area(s) of complaint will be conducted during your consultation. This examination may include range of motion testing, nerve and reflex testing, muscle strength testing, palpation and assessment of joint play (how the joints are moving).
When your physical examination is complete we will discuss with you the significance of our examination findings and will provide you with our clinical impression/working diagnosis. We will also explain our recommended plan of management in detail so that you are well informed about your treatment options.
Dr. Megan or Dr. Mailie will take the time to answer any questions you may have regarding your diagnosis and treatment plan before you choose to proceed with treatment. You will be provided with an opportunity to discuss and sign a written Informed Consent before your treatment begins.
